Inspired by the crane fly—a slow-moving, harmless insect often mistaken for a giant mosquito—researchers have given the Harvard RoboBee new and improved landing gear. Landing had been problematic for the RoboBee due in part to how small and light it is, weighing just a tenth of a gram, with a wingspan of 3 centimeters.
