International Chinese Language Day Celebrated at China Cultural Centre

On April 20th, 2024, the China Cultural Centre in Nigeria was immersed in a festival atmosphere as guests gathered to celebrate International Chinese Language Day. The event, marked by a series of captivating performances and heartfelt speeches, fostered closer ties between China and Nigeria.

The event commenced with the arrival of distinguished guests, setting the stage for an afternoon of cultural immersion. As the national anthems of both nations echoed through the halls, a sense of unity and harmony enveloped the audience.

Among the dignitaries present were Mr Li Xuda (Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy and Director of CCCNIG), Mr Liu Zhangping (Deputy Director of CCCNIG), Mr James Sule (Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture and Creative Economy), Mrs. Aisha Adamu Augie (Director General of the Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilization), Mr. Ahmed Sodangi (Director General of the National Gallery of Art) and Mr. Muhammad Suleiman (President of the Society of Nigerian Artists) amongst other important Dignitaries.

Cultural Counselor Li Xuda in his welcome address said that in recent years, Chinese language has attracted more and more Nigerians through its increasing influence, especially high school students and college students. He continued saying So far, Nigeria has built two Confucius Institutes, more than 10 Chinese learning centers and Chinese classrooms providing convenience for Nigerians to learn. He noted that Chinese Language is a great invention of mankind and It has witnessed the development and progress of human civilization. "When we celebrate the 'International Chinese Language Day' in Nigeria, we are also amazed that Nigeria has about 250 ethnic groups and 500 languages. This is an important part of world culture, which makes us deeply appreciate the civilizations and languages of the two countries.”

Mr. James Sule in his goodwill message expressed gratitude on behalf of Honourable Minister Barr Hanatu Musa to the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Nigeria, His Excellency Cui Jianchun, and the entire management team at the China Cultural Centre. He highlighted the enduring partnership between Nigeria and China, spanning fifty years of mutual respect and cooperation. Mr. Sule emphasized the Ministry's commitment to fostering cultural exchange and multicultural understanding, underscoring the importance of events like the International Chinese Language Celebration in strengthening ties between the two nations.

Mrs. Aisha Adamu Augie, Mr. Ahmed Sodangi, and Mr. Muhammad Suleiman delivered goodwill messages, acknowledging the efforts of the Chinese Embassy and China Cultural centre in Nigeria in promoting cultural heritage in Nigeria. They called for greater support for Nigeria's cultural endeavors and highlighted the potential for learning from China's cultural progress.

The event showcased a diverse array of performances, each offering a glimpse into the rich tapestry of Chinese culture. From the heartfelt poetry recitation titled "Dear Motherland" to the enchanting song "Wish You a Long Life" by Mrs. Li Ting, the spirited Wushu demonstration by the Abuja Wushu team, and lastly The Capital Voice Choir, along with staff from the Chinese Embassy and CCCNIG, enchanted the audience with their harmonious rendition of "Jasmine Flower," a classic Chinese melody that resonated with attendees. Each performance captivated the audience and showcased the richness of Chinese culture.

As the event drew to a close, guests were treated to a group photo, providing a lasting memento of the day's festivities. The exhibition tour of Chinese calligraphy offered attendees a glimpse into the intricate artistry of Chinese culture, while interviews provided an opportunity for reflection on the significance of International Chinese Language Day. A sumptuous lunch provided an opportunity for further networking and cultural exchange, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.

International Chinese Language Day at CCCNIG was a testament to the power of language and culture in fostering mutual understanding and cooperation between nations.
