Countdown to 2024 Chinese New Year Celebration

Chinese New Year 2024 will fall on Saturday, Feb 10th, 2024. The upcoming new year is the Year of the Dragon according to the Chinese zodiac. Each year in the Chinese zodiac is associated with an animal sign, and the Dragon is considered a symbol of strength, courage and good fortune. It is a time to embrace Chinese traditions, enjoy delicious food, and wish for prosperity and happiness in the year ahead.

To celebration the Chinese New Year and promote the cultural exchanges between China and Nigeria, the Chinese Embassy and China Cultural Center in Nigeria, in collaboration with Nigerian partners, will host 2024 “Happy Chinese New Year” Temple Fair on Feb 3 at China Cultural Center.

“Happy Chinese New Year” Temple Fair was held successfully in 2017 for the first time. Since then, thanks to the strong support from our friends and partners, the Temple Fair has become more and more popular in Nigeria and gradually developed into a well-known cultural brand.

This year’s Temple Fair consists of the following 8 parts: photo exhibition, movie screening, entertainment interaction, stage performance, cultural display, tea ceremony, food court and dynamic zone. Meanwhile, there are some other activities such as drawing lottery to win gifts, poker competition, Awarding Ceremony for Cuisine Competition, etc...

The highlights of The Temple Fair will be stage performance and the food court. More than a hundred performers from China and Nigeria will present a wonderful show on that day. Our guests will have the great opportunity to enjoy amazing programme including Peking Opera, Yangko dance, dragon dance and lion dance, which will definitely contribute to the integration of different cultures.

The food court consisting of 18 stalls will provide nearly 100 Chinese delicacies cooked by professional chefs, every guest can taste delicious Chinese food and experience the unique Chinese food culture.

In addition, Cai Luochen, Xu Ruochen, Wei Yuechen and Liu Shuhan, these four cute Chinese little girls won awards in drama competitions in China, they will come to Nigeria and present Opera and play Chinese traditional musical instruments such as pipa. The Abuja Martial Arts Team will perform the dragon dance. Local schools’ "China Corner" students will perform Chinese Yangko Dance.
