1st China Microsoft Innovation Institute settles in Fuzhou

FUZHOU,June 1(Fuzhou Daily) - Fuzhou signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Microsoft (China) Co., Ltd. on May 31. Microsoft will establishthe first Microsoft Innovation Institute inDonghu DigitalTown,Binhai New City, with the purpose of developingextensive cooperation and establishing a solid strategic cooperation relation withFuzhou in the future.

According to the staff from Microsoft, the Microsoft Innovation Instituteis a non-academic global education and training program for school teachers, students, and IT personnel to study the mainstream technology in the industry, master practical skills, and acquire work competence. The Institutewill be run jointly by Fuzhou Polytechnic, Fujian New East Lake Investment Co., Ltd. and Shenzhen Edensoft Co., Ltd. It is expected to train and deliver 12,100 talents for Fuzhou within three years.

According to the agreement, Fuzhou will recommend qualified educational institutions to join the “Microsoft Innovation Institute Program”, set up teaching systems and curriculum systems, and introduce Microsoft certification training and examination mechanisms to implement training and examinationof Microsoft’s globally unified professional technology certification. Besides, Microsoft will introduce virtual reality (VR) labs based on Microsoft technology and Microsoft “Innovation Cup”contest, and conduct comprehensive strategic cooperation with Fuzhou in thefield of education.

Teng Wen, vice president of Microsoft Greater China region said that, since entering into China, Microsoft has cultivated a large number of IT talents for China. After it is domiciled in Fuzhou, theMicrosoft Innovation Institutewill develop extensive cooperation with local colleges and universities. By virtue of world-leading information technologyand profound accumulation in the field of education over the years, Microsoft will boost digital transformation of Fuzhou’s education.

As of May 2018, leading companies such as Microsoft, Tencent, and CEC Data have settled in Donghu Digital Town. In the next three years, big data professionals studying at the Microsoft Innovation Institutewill be privileged to obtain employment in those enterprises domiciled in the Digital town.

According to Chen Guoping, the mayor of Donghu Digital Town, Fuzhou Binhai New City will be a smart new city constructed in accordance with the demonstration areas of “Digital China”. The settlement of the Microsoft Innovation Institute will increase the innovative vitality of Binhai New City and boost the prosperity of Fuzhou’s digital economy.
