Zhang Finishes T-14 at the NCAA Columbus Regional

Two Harvard students named 2025 Hertz Fellows

Two Harvard students, Soy Choi ’25 and Ananthan Sadagopan, were awarded the prestigious 2025 Hertz Fellowship, which supports doctoral studies in applied science, engineering, and mathematics. Choi, a mechanical engineering senior, plans to pursue a Ph.D. at Stanford, focusing on robotics for healthcare, while Sadagopan, a Ph.D. student in biomedical sciences, aims to develop novel therapeutics using chemical biology. Addie Esposito ’25, a Harvard senior concentrating in government and German, explored the enduring East-West divide in German identity for her thesis, based on 183 Bundestag surveys and 48 interviews with lawmakers. Her research, launched during a Bundestag internship, found many former East Germans—including younger generations—still identify primarily as East German, contrasting with broader German or European identification in the West. Esposito’s work highlights how Cold War legacies and regional pride shape modern political culture. She will pursue a master’s in public policy at Berlin’s Hertie School, aiming for a future in diplomacy or academia.

Former HKS Dean, Leading International Relations Scholar Joseph Nye Dead at 88

Joseph S. Nye Sr., former Harvard Kennedy School dean and influential international relations scholar, died at 88 on May 6, 2025. Best known for co-developing neoliberalism and coining “soft power,” Nye served in national security roles under Presidents Carter and Clinton and led HKS through major expansion from 1995 to 2004. Widely respected as a mentor, scholar, and public servant, Nye remained an active critic of Trump and defender of higher education until his death. HKS Dean Weinstein and colleagues hailed him as a founding figure and intellectual giant.
