Changting County Was Selected In the First Batch of Counties in China to Promote the Construction of Soil and Water Conservation Projects in an Integrated Way

Recently, the General Office of the Ministry of Water Resources issued a notice that Changting County was successfully selected as the county to promote the national integration of soil and water conservation projects, becoming the only county in Fujian Province to be selected for this project, and the central financial fund plan subsidized RMB 80 million.

It is understood that the project aims at building the Tingjiang Eco-economic Corridor, cultivating and developing rural characteristic industries, creating a number of small watersheds with demonstration and influence, forming an integrated pattern to promote the construction of soil and water conservation projects, comprehensively improving the function of soil and water conservation and the supply capacity of ecological products, improving the potential of ecological products transformation and trading, and continuously broadening the practical path of transforming Lucid waters and lush mountains into invaluable assets.

In recent years, Changting County has focused on building a national pioneering area for high-quality development of soil and water conservation, and systematically constructed a sustainable development path of “ecological governance-value transformation-global revitalization”. Since the “Fourteenth Five-Year Plan”, the county has carried out comprehensive management and ecological restoration in an area of 665,000 mu, and the soil and water conservation rate has increased to 93.69%, which greatly exceeds the national average and is higher than that of developed countries such as Europe, America and Japan. The forest coverage rate is as high as 79.55%, which is 14 percentage points higher than the provincial average. Changting County has been selected as one of the top ten counties in the province's county economic development for three consecutive years, achieving a historic leap from “the hardest hit area of soil erosion in China” to “the model of global ecological governance” and becoming a model for practicing the concept of lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable asset. In April this year, “Changting Experience” was selected as a sustainable development demonstration case of the International Digital Earth Conference.
