Harvard in News on 5/27/2025 媒体中的哈佛

From helping out in her dad’s medical clinic to co-founding a company that powers 36,000+ clinicians and serves 20 million patients—Kyna Fong’s journey is one of passion, innovation, and resilience. 💡💙 A Harvard alumna with degrees in applied math and computer science, Kyna coded the first version of @elationhealth herself, inspired by a simple but powerful mission: to build technology that strengthens the trust between doctor and patient—not distracts from it. Today, Elation Health is a leader in health tech, advancing AI for better care and earning “Best in KLAS” for clinician satisfaction in 2025. “It’s proven again and again that primary care has pretty much the highest return on investment into the healthcare system,” she said. “We already don’t have enough physicians. We especially don’t have enough primary care physicians. We continue to be focused on making technology better and more effective so it can respect the sanctity of the patient-physician relationship.”
Graduating master's student Judy Sng earned her PhD in neuroscience more than 20 years ago and has been teaching neuropharmacology at the National University of Singapore (NUS) since 2009. A leader in educating educators at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, she began developing artificial intelligence-powered teaching tools in the late 2010s. But she appreciates that learning is a lifelong process, so when she wanted to refine those tools, gain deeper insights into how AI can improve the medical education experience, and brush up on modern teaching philosophies, she looked to Harvard Medical School’s Master of Medical Sciences in Medical Education program. “I came to Harvard for a reason: to engage with top leaders in the field,” she said. “I put myself in a mindset of a student, to receive.” At HMS, Sng’s research focused on how students perceive AI in medical education and how it can be effectively integrated into curricula. Sng is poised to apply her new expertise by helping create a master’s program at her home university, ensuring that educators are equipped with the latest strategies and technologies as they train the next generation of medical professionals to navigate an evolving health care landscape.
HBS, HKS professors win award for best health economics paper Harvard Kennedy School’s Marcella Alsan and Harvard Business School’s Joshua Schwartzstein have received the prestigious 2025 Arrow Award for the best health economics paper, recognizing their study, “Representation and Extrapolation: Evidence from Clinical Trials.” Published in The Quarterly Journal of Economics, the paper examines racial underrepresentation in U.S. clinical trials, finding that Black patients are often excluded because enrolling previously well-served groups is less costly. The study emphasizes the need for greater diversity in trials to improve health outcomes. Co-authored with researchers from Stanford and Dartmouth, the paper bridges economics, medicine, and public health.

AADT’s ‘Eastbound’ 2025 Celebrates Inclusivity and Bonding Through Asian American Dance.

The Harvard Asian American Dance Troupe (AADT)'s 2025 spring showcase, Eastbound, held at the Loeb Drama Center, highlighted the group’s mission of inclusivity, artistic growth, and celebration of Asian heritage. Featuring a diverse range of performances—including traditional dances symbolizing natural elements like water and cherry blossoms, K-pop, and hip hop—AADT welcomed performers of all backgrounds and experience levels. The troupe’s selective group BEYOND, which requires auditions, closed the show with high-energy routines in open style and hip hop. Led by co-directors Aaron J. Arlanza ’26 and Yafan Wang ’26, the event emphasized AADT’s dual role as both a cultural showcase and a tight-knit community. Members spoke of the group’s accessible, low-commitment structure and its role in fostering friendship, cultural connection, and multi-generational bonds, with alumni returning to cheer on performers. Signature pieces like “Flagship” symbolically opened the show, grounding it in Asian American tradition while celebrating the troupe’s dynamic, evolving identity.

Harvard Revokes Tenure From Francesca Gino, Business School Professor Accused of Data Fraud

Harvard Business School has revoked tenure from Francesca Gino, a prominent behavioral scientist accused of data fraud, marking the first known tenure revocation at Harvard since the 1940s. Gino, once among Harvard’s highest-paid faculty, was investigated after the blog Data Colada flagged suspicious data in her research. Following an 18-month inquiry, HBS found academic misconduct and placed her on leave in 2023. Gino responded with a $25 million lawsuit, alleging defamation, breach of contract, and discrimination, while also publicly declaring her innocence and claiming a targeted campaign against her.

Trump Takes Aim at Harvard. His Facts Sometimes Miss the Mark.

President Donald Trump has intensified his attacks on Harvard University, accusing it of harboring anti-American radicals, hiding international student data, and misusing federal funding—but many of his claims are factually inaccurate or misleading. He alleged that Harvard withheld students’ identities from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), though the government already has access through federal databases. The core dispute centered on Harvard’s compliance with requests for records on student protest-related conduct, not identities. Trump further misstated figures, claiming Harvard has "$52 million" instead of its actual $52 billion endowment, and inflated international student enrollment statistics. He also falsely asserted that foreign governments pay nothing to Harvard, despite over $151 million in foreign funds received since 2020. Trump threatened to strip $3 billion in federal grants, though such funds are largely restricted research allocations, not easily redirected to trade schools as he claimed. The ongoing conflict stems from Harvard’s lawsuits challenging DHS orders and federal funding cuts—cases now assigned to Judge Allison D. Burroughs, whom Trump criticized despite no evidence of judicial bias.

‘It is Pure Fascism’: More Than 100 Rally Against ICE in Boston Common

Over 100 protesters gathered on Boston Common this Memorial Day to denounce Trump administration immigration policies and recent ICE arrests in Massachusetts. Organized by Massachusetts 50501, the rally featured marches, speeches, and calls for state leaders to terminate all cooperation with ICE. Speakers, including students and local officials, condemned the detainment of immigrants and international students, calling the enforcement tactics “pure fascism.” The protest also addressed Trump’s actions against Harvard and broader concerns over civil liberties and community safety, urging unity and activism in opposition.

Columns: Come At Me, Bro

Yona T. Sperling-Milner, a Harvard sophomore and opinion writer, satirically responds to the Trump administration’s ongoing pressure campaign against Harvard—particularly Education Secretary Linda McMahon’s role—by proposing a WWE-style cage match to settle the dispute over $2.7 billion in frozen federal grants. In a blend of sharp wit and biting critique, she mocks the administration’s theatrical tactics, accusing it of political posturing, collective punishment, and hypocritical concern for Jewish students, while undermining actual campus life and scientific research. Her essay highlights the absurdity of the situation with humor, but lands a serious blow: the campaign against Harvard, she argues, is less about reform and more about symbolic attacks on elite institutions.

Stanford faculty react to Harvard international student ban, foresee long-term damage

Stanford faculty reacted strongly to the Trump administration’s revocation of Harvard’s certification to enroll international students, calling the move radical, vindictive, and damaging to U.S. interests. The action, based on unverified claims of “pro-terrorist conduct,” has sparked fears that similar measures could target other schools, including Stanford, where 24% of students are international. Professors Kathryn Stoner and Larry Diamond condemned the decision as a political vendetta and an authoritarian attack on elite institutions. They warned of lasting harm to academic freedom, research funding, and America’s global credibility. Despite temporary legal relief for Harvard, faculty fear long-term damage and called for stronger, strategic responses beyond symbolic statements to defend higher education and its role in national strength.

NYTimes: Trump Suggests Giving Trade Schools Money Taken From Harvard

President Trump suggested on Memorial Day that he may redirect $3 billion in frozen federal research grants from Harvard to trade schools, though he offered no concrete plan for how this would work. The proposal builds on his administration’s broader campaign against Harvard, accusing the university of antisemitism, liberal bias, and noncompliance with federal requests for information on international students. Much of the halted funding supports scientific research, particularly at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and would not easily transfer to vocational institutions, which typically do not conduct such research. While some trade school advocates welcomed the idea, Trump’s past pitch for a so-called “American Academy”—a nonpolitical, anti-“woke” online education platform funded by taxing elite endowments—has yet to materialize, and critics view the moves as largely political theater rather than policy.
