维护生物多样性

Timothy Male：My name is Dr Timothy Male.I'm the executive director of the Environmental Policy innovation Center or EPIC and as a scientist, I've worked on nature restoration and nature finance for about 20 years. There's lots of connections between nature, sports and recreation. People love to be outside and many of the best places to restore nature are near where people live, work, travel, vacation and biological credits and other kinds of ecosystem service markets. 

At their best they offer both benefits to nature but also benefits to people to local communities for trails for camping for hiking. I'll give you a specific example. In England some of the biggest and earliest bioversity credit projects are happening on lands where people are creating bioversity credits.They're creating exciting places to go see the stars at night or to go have outside restaurant style meals to be able to go camping or to have experiences with dogs and pets.

So that's a very specific example of creating recreational benefits and creating biology benefits creating revenue from recreation and for the landowner, for the community. Revenue from recreation and also revenue from the biodiversity being enhanced.

Timothy Male is the Executive Director and co-founder of the Environmental Policy Innovation Center (EPIC), which he has led since 2017. He is widely recognized for his work in water management, ecological restoration, wildlife conservation, and natural capital investment, and is committed to advancing efficient, innovative, and incentive-based environmental policies.

He previously served as Associate Director at the White House Council on Environmental Quality and held leadership roles at the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, Defenders of Wildlife, and the Environmental Defense Fund.

Timothy holds science degrees from Yale University and the University of Hawaii, with a strong background in both ecology and policy. His research and commentary have appeared in major mainstream media outlets and academic journals such as The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and Science. 

His current priorities include promoting natural capital investment, ecosystem services markets, and innovative environmental policy, working to advance sustainable development through policy and financial tools.

蒂莫西·梅尔是环境政策创新中心（EPIC）的执行主任兼联合创始人，自2017年起领导该机构。他在水资源管理、生态修复、野生动物保护以及自然资本投资等领域享有广泛声誉，致力于推动高效、创新且以激励为导向的环境政策。

In the Same Boat

欢迎收听微电台，成语talk show节目，我是文江，今天我来给大家讲讲“同舟共济”的故事。

 

春秋时期，吴国和越国经常互相打仗。两国的人民也都将对方视为仇人。有一次，两国的人恰巧共同坐一艘船渡河。

船刚开的时候，他们在船上互相瞪着对方，一副要打架的样子。

但是船开到河中央的时候，突然遇到了大风雨，眼见船就要翻了，为了保住性命，他们顾不得彼此的仇恨，纷纷互相救助，并且合力稳定船身，才逃过这场天灾，而安全到达河的对岸。 

同舟共济，比喻团结互助，同心协力，战胜困难。也比喻利害相同。

Hello everyone, this is We radio, idiom talk show. I am Andy Purvis. The name of the story I will tell you today is: In the same boat.

During the Spring and Autumn Seasons, Wu' s people and Yue' s people often fought each other for all sorts of reasons. In the spring it would be for who could get the best seeds and plants and, in the Autumn, it would be for who had the best harvests and who could get the best prices from the Markets across the river. Sometimes the battles would become intense as both peoples raced to get onto the first boat of two boats to cross the river! 

Once again, this year, the people would try to beat each other to be on the first boat and they fought as true enemies.

This year, there was only one boat as the other had to be taken for repairs so people from both sides had to take the one across the river together. When they boarded the boat, they stared at each other ready to throw each other' s harvest overboard but when the boat was driving to the middle of the river, a raging storm came and threatened to capsize the boat. 

In order to save their lives, they ignored each other' s hatred of one another and made the incredible decision to help each other and worked together to save both harvests by joining together bodily to stabilise the hull, all of them running from side to side to stop the boat from succumbing to the fury of the storm and escaping maelstrom the opposite bank of the river safely.

From this ancient story we are reminded of the lesson that by working together when facing impossible odds we are able to put our differences aside and see how working together benefits our mutual interests.
