AI Anxiety - Can writing at Harvard coexist with new technologies?
Serena Jampel explores how generative AI impacts writing at Harvard, particularly in the humanities. While AI can assist with editing and structure, it raises concerns about academic dishonesty and the erosion of independent thought. Experiments have shown AI can produce passing essays, leading to stricter policies like oral exams. Jampel distinguishes between writing as an art and as a skill, arguing that AI is more suited for formulaic tasks than deep analysis. While AI can enhance revision, true learning requires struggle and iteration—something technology cannot fully replicate.

Is AI already shaking up labor market? - 4 trends point to major change, say researchers who studied century of tech disruptions
A new study by Harvard economists David Deming and Lawrence Summers examines 124 years of labor market data, revealing AI’s growing impact on jobs. While job disruption slowed between 1990 and 2017, data since 2019 shows major shifts, including rising demand for high-skilled jobs, rapid STEM job growth, and declining low-wage service and retail jobs. AI investments are reshaping employment, much like past technological breakthroughs. The study suggests AI will boost productivity but also displace jobs, pushing knowledge workers to adapt or risk being replaced.
Teen Grind Culture
A Harvard study explores teen "grind culture," revealing intense pressure across academics, appearance, social life, and future planning, with over half of surveyed teens feeling pressure in three or more areas. Social media often worsens stress but can also provide support. One in four teens report burnout, likening their experience to overworked adults. Teens who avoid pressure prioritize sleep, outdoor time, and self-care. The study urges adults to help teens balance digital engagement with real-world activities and embrace non-competitive hobbies for well-being.

Flyby: Presidential Romance: A Valentine’s Day Date with Harvard’s Finest
This humorous article imagines what dating former U.S. presidents who attended Harvard would be like, blending history with lighthearted satire. John Adams lectures endlessly, John Quincy Adams takes you on a bizarre early morning swim, and Rutherford B. Hayes is so forgettable you accidentally ghost him. Teddy Roosevelt drags you on a wilderness adventure, while FDR is deeply policy-focused and unimpressed by pop culture references. JFK exudes charm but avoids commitment, George W. Bush champions Texas barbecue, and Obama combines basketball, memoir readings, and inspiration. In the end, dating a Harvard alum president proves to be educational, if not exactly romantic.
