The 16th Chinese Drama Festival Opened in Fuzhou

Burlesque “Chen Huansheng’s Meal Problem” wonderfully appeared.

The 16th Chinese Drama Festival opened at the Straits Arts and Culture Center on Sunday night. Provincial party secretary Yu Weiguo, governor Tang Dengjie, party secretary and vice chairman of China Federation of Literary and Cultural Organization Li Yi, provincial leaders Wang Ning, Liang Jianyong, Zheng Xincong, Zhang Guangmin, Lin Baojin and Zhang Zhaomin attended the opening ceremony.

Mayor You Mengjun said in his speech, as the largest and highest-level art event in China’s theater industry, the Chinese Drama Festival returned to Fuzhou after 26 years. This is a major step to thoroughly study and implement Xi Jinping thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era and general secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions on cultural and artistic work, fully embodying that the central government attaches great importance to the drama cause and trusts and supports Fujian and Fuzhou, which will greatly promote the prosperity and development of the drama art in Fuzhou and further enrich the spiritual and cultural life of Fuzhou citizens. Fuzhou city will be dedicated to provide first-class service, first-class guarantee and make efforts for artists to show results and youth and create good conditions for research. It is believed that this drama festival will not only inherit classics, but also create more classics, so that the vast number of opera fans and people in the city can fully appreciate the unique charm of drama culture.

Chen Yan, secretary of the sub-party group of the Chinese Drama Association and vice President of the association, said in his speech that the festival coincides with the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. It is believed that under the joint efforts of everyone, this drama festival will show the charm of drama to the greatest extent. Let us unite closely around the party central committee with comrade Xi Jinping as the core, thoroughly implement the spirit of general secretary Xi Jinping’s series of important speeches on culture and art, unite and guide the majority of drama workers, and make new contributions to pushing the cause of Chinese drama to new heights.

The 16th Chinese Drama Festival is co-sponsored by China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Chinese Drama Association, municipal government, provincial cultural and tourism department, provincial cultural and art federation, and undertaken by Municipal Cultural and Tourism Bureau and provincial drama association. The theme is “inheritance of classics in the new era of dream pursuit”. The festival will run until November 12, which showcases 30 excellent plays from all over China, including 21 kinds of operas, such as Peking Opera, Henan Opera, Sichuan Opera, Fujian Opera and burlesques, and drama, musical, children’s drama, including Fujian Opera “Red Dress”, “Longtai Prince Consort” and the musical “Tea Ceremony” selected by Fuzhou. During the drama festival, drama creation forum, drama and musical creation forum, drama review, Fujian and Taiwan drama exchange and cooperation and Fujian excellent drama performance, literature exhibition of Fujian drama, media meeting of performing groups and other supporting activities will be held.

At the opening ceremony, the federation conferred honorary titles of “lifetime achievement dramatist” on Guo Lanying, a famous opera performer, and Wang Wenjuan, a Shaoxing Opera performer. After the opening ceremony, the burlesque of “Chen Huansheng’s Meal Problem” was performed.

About 1000 people attended the opening ceremony, including the leaders of China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and Chinese Drama Association, the leaders of provincial federation of literary and art circles and provincial department of cultural tourism, the leaders of the four sets of municipal leading bodies, the leaders of Minjiang Normal College, the guests of the drama circle, the leaders of drama associations all over the country, and the fans and audiences.
