The 5th "Wu Qingyuan Cup" World Women's Go Competition Ended

On the evening of September 29, the award ceremony of the 5th Wu Qingyuan Cup World Women's Go Competition and Fujian Strait Bank Cup 2022 World Artificial Intelligence Go Competition was held in Fuzhou, and this competition ended successfully.

In July this year, the contest kicked off, with 24 top female chess players from all over the world competing in many cities at the same time. After fierce competition, South Korean chess player Wu Yujin won the first place. The 2022 World Artificial Intelligence Go Competition held at the same time jumped out of the limitations of the traditional AI competition, and the combination of Sun Tengyu and Katago became the first champion combination after the competition system innovation.

For the first time in this competition, the Chinese Writers' Go Invitational Tournament was held. After a fierce game, Nie Weiping/Wu Xuan won the championship. "Winning the competition mainly depends on Nie's efforts and playing with him is the biggest gain of this trip to Fuzhou." Writer Wu Xuan said.

Since 2018, the "Wu Qingyuan Cup" World Women's Go Game has become the women's Go Game with the largest number of participating countries, the highest specification and the greatest influence. The World Artificial Intelligence Go Competition has also become the world's top three artificial intelligence Go competitions alongside China Go Conference, World Intelligent Go Open Competition and Japan UEC Cup World Go AI Competition.

Fuzhou, which has a history of more than 2,200 years, has a deep relationship with Go. Fuzhou is the only city in China that has won the honor of famous city and hometown of Go. In the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, Ye Xianggao, the cabinet's secretary, became the first official player to go with his excellent chess skills. During the Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty, Xue Shidan, the national player of Fuzhou, was famous all over the world for his superb chess skills. In modern times, Wu Qingyuan, a "Go master", is well-known all over the world.

"Go is a traditional culture that originated in China and is generally accepted by all countries in the world. The holding of the World Women's Go Tournament is a concrete manifestation of cultural confidence and cultural output." The relevant person in charge of the Municipal Sports Bureau said that holding the "Wu Qingyuan Cup" World Women's Go Tournament is not only a deep memory of Wu Qingyuan, but also a promotion of Fuzhou's long and profound traditional culture, which has become another bridge connecting Fuzhou with the world.

At present, Fuzhou has formed the "Wu Qingyuan Cup" competition and artificial intelligence competition as the core, and derived the related Go competition, amateur Go league, primary and secondary school students' Go championship, park Go culture festival, ladies' Go promotion activities and other supporting activities. Every year, the number of players in Fuzhou who take the exam level has increased from more than 4,000 in 2018 to more than 22,000 in 2021, ranking the highest in the province. In 2019 and 2020, there were successful chess players in Fuzhou, which filled the gap that Fuzhou had no professional chess players for nearly 30 years.

"In recent years, China has promoted women's Go in various forms, laying a solid foundation for the development of women's Go. This competition is very popular, such as kinship competition, writers competition, artificial intelligence competition, etc., all of which show the radiation effect of the 'Wu Qingyuan Cup' competition."
