Sailing Posts Top Three Finish at Women’s Fleet Race National Championship Harvard women’s sailing surged to a third-place finish at the ICSA Women’s Fleet Race National Championships, marking their best result since 2019. After a slow first day, the team climbed six spots on day two, completing 26 races across divisions. In Division A, Cordelia Burn and Margo Silliman finished second overall with two first-place wins. In Division B, Zoey Ziskind, Peyton Hadfield, and Christina Chen placed fourth, helping Harvard break into the top three for the first time in five years.
Without its international students, Harvard is not Harvard. Yesterday, the federal government announced that it has revoked Harvard’s certification under the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) and stripped the University of its authority to sponsor F- and J- visas for international students and scholars for the 2025-26 academic year. The revocation continues a series of government actions to retaliate against Harvard for our refusal to surrender our academic independence and to submit to the federal government’s illegal assertion of control over our curriculum, our faculty, and our student body. We have filed a complaint, and a motion for a temporary restraining order will follow. As we pursue legal remedies, we will do everything in our power to support our students and scholars.

Judge Temporarily Blocks Trump Admin From Revoking Harvard’s Ability To Enroll International Students

A federal judge issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) blocking the Trump administration’s attempt to revoke Harvard’s SEVP certification, which enables the school to enroll international students. The judge ruled that allowing the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to proceed would cause “immediate and irreparable injury.” Harvard argued the move was “unprecedented and retaliatory,” threatening to strip thousands of students of their visas, disrupt enrollment, and eliminate 26% of its student body. The TRO halts DHS enforcement and delays document submission demands, with hearings set for May 27 and 29.

Harvard Sues Trump Admin Over International Enrollment Block

Harvard has sued the Trump administration and secured a temporary restraining order (TRO) to stop the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from revoking its SEVP certification, which would block the enrollment of over 7,000 international students. Harvard called the DHS move “unprecedented and retaliatory,” accusing it of violating academic freedom, First Amendment rights, and due process. The lawsuit claims the DHS acted without cause, in response to Harvard’s limited compliance with aggressive records requests involving student protests and discipline. President Alan Garber called the move “unlawful and unwarranted.” A federal judge granted the TRO hours after filing, halting DHS enforcement until further hearings.

House Narrowly Passes GOP Tax Bill Targeting Harvard’s Endowment with 21 Percent Tax

The U.S. House of Representatives narrowly passed a Republican-led bill imposing a 21 percent tax on Harvard’s endowment returns, up from the current 1.4 percent. The bill, titled the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” passed 215–214 and targets elite universities with high per-student endowments, including Harvard, Yale, Stanford, and MIT. Harvard, with a $53.2 billion endowment, would owe hundreds of millions annually, impacting financial aid, research, and faculty hiring. Backed by President Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson, the bill is part of a broader effort to financially penalize Harvard, which also faces a $3 billion federal funding freeze and threats to its tax-exempt status. The bill now heads to the Senate, where debate is expected.

Kyo Matcha Review: ‘Let The Tea Return to the Forest,’ or at Least to Boston

Kyo Matcha in Brookline offers a visually appealing and vibrant space for matcha-based desserts and drinks. While the matcha parfait features great textures, its overly sweet soft serve holds it back. The Ube Towel Cake looks stunning but lacks flavor, while the Matcha Crepe Layer Cake is a standout with perfect balance. Drinks like the Black Sesame Latte and Iced Hojicha Latte are flavorful, though slightly sweet. Sourcing its matcha from Uji, Japan, the café embodies its motto “Let the Tea Return to the Forest,” delivering an aesthetic and enjoyable—if slightly inconsistent—experience. Rating: 3.5 stars.

NYTimes: Trump Seeks Extensive Student Data in Pressure Campaign to Control Harvard

The Trump administration has escalated its pressure on Harvard by revoking its ability to enroll international students, citing insufficient compliance with broad data requests from DHS Secretary Kristi Noem. The government demanded extensive records, including coursework, protest videos, and disciplinary data on visa holders, prompting Harvard to sue, claiming violations of the First Amendment, academic freedom, and due process. Harvard says it complied with legal requirements but resisted overreach. Critics view the move as part of a larger campaign to politically control higher education, using student data as leverage to force ideological compliance.

NYTimes: Universities See Trump’s Harvard Move as a Threat to Them, Too

The Trump administration’s revocation of Harvard’s ability to enroll international students has alarmed universities nationwide, signaling a broader threat to academic autonomy. Citing unmet demands, including records of protest activity, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem warned other institutions to comply or face similar action. College leaders, from MIT to Hawaii, fear Trump is using student visa programs as political leverage to reshape campuses. Critics warn the move creates a chilling effect on international enrollment, jeopardizing diversity, research, and global engagement, while potentially deterring top talent from choosing the U.S.

Canada PM's Daughter And Belgian Princess Entangled In Harvard-Trump Row

Harvard University has sued the Trump administration over its move to revoke the school’s ability to enroll international students, citing First Amendment violations. A judge issued a temporary restraining order, but if the policy stands, Harvard could be barred from international enrollment for two years, impacting 7,000 visa holders. Among those affected are Cleo Carney, daughter of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and Princess Elisabeth of Belgium, both current Harvard students. The move stems from DHS Secretary Kristi Noem’s demand for protest-related student data, sparking international concern and legal backlash.
